Tennis Season Recap 2010

The Austin College women’s tennis team enjoyed a strong season in 2010 while the men struggled over the course of the season, with the women finishing the year with a record of 10-11 overall while the men ended the year with an overall record of 0-20. The women were 2-5 against Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference competition while the men went 0-7 in conference.

For the women, several players shined during the course of the year including Minnie Satyavada and Kelly Lewis, each of whom earned Honorable Mention All-SCAC honors for their strong play. Lewis competed at number one singles and teamed with Satyavada at number one doubles all year, while Satyavada split her time between number two and number three singles.

Also competing well this season were Lizzie Flint and Jessie Berger, each of whom earned SCAC All-Tournament honors after going 2-0 at number two doubles against Centre College and Millsaps College in the tournament.

On the men’s side, the team was led by freshman Tyler Roush, who performed well at number one singles and number one doubles all season, where he teamed with Anthony Cook. Cook was the team’s number two singles player throughout the season. Between singles and doubles play, Roush won a combined 13 matches this season to lead the ’Roos while he and Cook enjoyed a six match win streak at one point in the year.

The highlight of the season for head coach Andrew Gannon’s tennis program was when the women’s team cracked the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Rankings for the first time in program history, coming in at No. 14 in the West Region after getting out to an 8-4 start to the season.
