Tennis Earns ITA Academic Awards

The entire Austin College women’s tennis team as well as five individual members of both the men’s and women’s teams have been honored by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association for their excellence in the classroom, it has been announced. The ’Roo women’s tennis team was honored as an ITA All-Academic Team while women’s players Jessie Berger, Emily Kuo and Kelly Lewis along with men’s players Zackery Bengston and Daniel Jackson have been recognized as ITA Scholar-Athletes.

The women’s tennis team was one of four Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference teams to be named as an All-Academic team after posting a cumulative 3.4 grade-point-average for the 2009-2010 academic year, well above the 3.2 GPA required by the ITA to earn the award. In order to be recognized as an ITA Scholar-Athlete, a student-athlete must maintain a 3.5 GPA for the entire school year.

Austin College athletic teams participate as a member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
