Women’s Soccer Falls to Birmingham-Southern

The Austin College women’s soccer team suffered their first loss of the season on Friday afternoon, falling to visiting Birmingham-Southern College 1-0 to fall to 5-1 overall on the year.

Austin College dominated play for much of the first half, out-shooting the Panthers 8-4, but neither team was able to score before the break. The ’Roos continued to control much of the second half with a 12-5 shot advantage but Birmingham-Southern’s Jamie Sullivan slipped a shot just inside the right hand post from 20 yards out to put BSC on top 1-0 in the 67th minute.

The ’Roos had several chances to equalize late but were unable to tally down the stretch en route to the one goal defeat. Kaitlin Elledge made a pair of saves in the net for Austin College. The goal for Birmingham-Southern is just the second that the ’Roos have surrendered all season.
