Women’s Soccer Blanks Millsaps 5-0

The Austin College women’s soccer team rebounded from their first loss of the season in dominating fashion, topping visiting Millsaps College 5-0 on Sunday afternoon to improve to 6-1 overall and 1-0 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

The ’Roos didn’t waste much time getting on the board in the first half, tallying twice in a 1:23 span less than 10 minutes into the game. The first goal came when Kelsey D’Amore found Shelley Casey, who fought off a defender and put it past the Millsaps keeper at the 7:22 mark and then Chelsea Parker blasted a shot from 30 yards out in the 9th minute to make it 2-0 early.

The ’Roos added one more before halftime when Andrea Schneider assisted on Ali Ryan’s seventh goal of the season in the 17th minute, sending Austin College into the break leading 3-0. The second half was more of the same from the ’Roos as Casey scored her second goal on a feed from Gabby Mavelian in the 64th minute and Emma Treu took an assist from Casey 10 minutes later to make it a 5-0 final.

Kaitlin Elledge made five saves as she and Emily Brockette combined for the team’s fifth shutout of the season and the ’Roos out-shot the Majors 28-10 for the game.
