Austin College theatre students will stage The Mound Builders at 7:30 p.m. on October 21 and 22, and 2 p.m. on October 23 in Ida Green Theatre in Ida Green Communication Center on the Austin College campus. Tickets will be sold at the door for $8 each. There is no charge for students, faculty, and staff with a valid Austin College ID.
The play by Landford Wilson takes place during the mid-’70s on an archaeological dig in southern Illinois, and raises questions about preservation vs. development, and explores the tensions that come from competing desires—for fame, wealth, knowledge, and power.
The production will be directed by Kathleen Campbell, professor of communication studies. Sophomore Daniel Hook of Lake Jackson, Texas, will play August Howe; sophomore Emma Merlo of Belton, Texas, will play Cynthia Howe. Freshman Conner Skinner of Hallsville, Texas, will play Dan Loggins, and sophomore Jennifer Perrone of Denison, Texas, will play Jean Loggins. Senior Taylor Meek of Austin, Texas, will be Delia Erikson; junior Elizabeth Oltman of Sherman, Texas, will portray Kirsten Howe; and sophomore Harris Tooley of Sherman, Texas, will play the part of Chad Jasker.
The play will be stage managed by sophomore Kaitlin Forsman of Conroe, Texas, assisted by freshmen Melissa Lyttle of Austin, Texas, and Stephanie Schultz of Whitewright, Texas. Lighting and set design will be done by Liz Banks, visiting assistant professor of communication studies, assisted by senior Kaitlin Elledge of Fort Worth, Texas. Senior Caroline Webb of Denison, Texas, will design the costumes. Senior Mayra Giron of Dallas, Texas; senior Annie Solano of McKinney, Texas; and sophomore Jessica Shanks of Cedar Park, Texas, will manage the photography and projections. Prop master will be sophomore Harrison Wilkie of Dallas, Texas, with special props managed by senior Jeff Ridenour of Denison, Texas. Sound design will be under the care of sophomore Matthew Ervin of Austin, Texas, and sophomore MC Engram of Southlake, Texas, will be the house manager.
