Swimming Places 5th

SHERMAN, Texas – The Austin College men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams each placed fifth at the annual AC Invitational on Saturday, with the women totaling 261 points and the men just getting edged out by Southwestern for fourth place with 262 points.

On the men’s side Tim Matthews took first place in the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 2:09.89 and also placed third in the 1650 yard freestyle with a time of 19:04.76 to lead the ’Roos. On the women’s side, Chelsea Wylie totaled 184.50 points in the 3-meter diving event to place first and Alex Brown finished third in both the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 1:05.10 and the 100 yard backstroke, finishing in 1:05.39. Christine Caldwell added a third place finish in the 50 yard freestyle, finishing with a time of 27.51.

The ’Roos have one more meet at McMurry on January 23 before preparing for the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship, which will take place February 16-20 in Louisville.

Austin College athletic teams participate as a member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
