Guidelines and Important Notes Regarding Education Classes

  1. Undergraduate Education courses must be taken in sequence and no two courses may be taken concurrently.  The course may not be taken as a directed study unless the Chair of the Education Department gives special approval.
  2. Students must have satisfactorily completed Education 225 to take Education 351.
  3. Considerations in planning when to register for Education 351 and 475:
    1. Education 351 and 475 require a one-hour, daily block of time for the field portion. It may be possible to use the designated class time as part of the field experience provided that the same hours are open on the off days.  The high school is now on a block schedule, which necessitates a two-hour block for secondary field experiences.
    2. Must have a 2.50 overall GPA in your Education 225 and 351 courses to be qualified to take Education 475.
    3. In Education 475 students teach for nine weeks.  Preparation for teaching is time consuming so plan accordingly.
  4. Students may take no more than two graduate courses prior to being admitted to the Graduate Program.  (See next section concerning admission to the Graduate Program)
  5. The graduate year generally is a minimum of a full calendar year (summer, fall, and spring).
  6. All graduate courses are to taken for letter grades except Education 576, 584, or 594, which are taken S/U.
  7. All students pursuing teaching certification in Spanish or French must take the LOTE test for language proficiency.  We highly recommend this test be taken prior to your semester of graduate teaching, as you cannot qualify for an internship until you have passed the LOTE.
