Austin College takes great pride in the fact that it is a small college community.

One of Austin College’s main objectives is to provide a residential living-learning climate which touches all aspects of the students’ lives. In the early 1970′s, the college continued to fulfill this enrichment with the construction of the Sid Richardson Recreational Center and the Hannah Natatorium. With this building, the College now hasĀ  a multipurpose recreational facility for students.

The Sid Richardson center was made possible by a challenge grant from the Sid Richardson Foundation. Sid Richardson was a pioneer wildcatter and independent oilman who established the foundation which bears his name. The Richardson Foundation has been a very generous donor to Texas educational institutions, and many colleges in the state, including Austin College, have buildings bearing his name. The center is part of the Robert T. Mason Athletic/Recreation Complex.
