Baseball Hero #1
The 'Roos have placed more than 20 players on All-Conference teams as well as three All-West Region selections in the last five years.  During the 2007 season, four players were named 1st Team All-SCAC and seven players were honored overall.

Austin College Head Baseball Coach

Austin College head baseball coach, Carl Iwasaki, stepped down from that position to become the head coach at the University of Northern Colorado. Iwasaki recently completed his sixth season at the helm of the ’Roos and leaves with a career record of 102-130.

2010 Honors

ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District Team
Andy White, SS, SR, Austin College

White, a shortstop from Dallas, was also a 1st Team All-SCAC performer and a SCAC All-Tournament Team selection and boasts a 3.41 grade point average. He was selected a 2nd Team Academic All-District VI honoree for his outstanding performance both in the classroom and on the field, and this season he batted .413 with 33 runs batted in, good for second best on the team in both categories.

Andy WhiteAndy White, SS, SR, Austin CollegeWhite has been named to the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference All-Tournament Team for his outstanding play at the 2010 SCAC Baseball Championship, the conference office has announced. White, a shortstop from Dallas, batted .500 (5-of-10) in two games with two doubles, a triple and four runs batted in and also scored two runs, had a .900 slugging percentage, a .545 on base percentage and a .1445 OPS (on base plus slugging) for the tournament. White went 4-for-6 in a loss to Trinity and had a standup triple in the game one loss to DePauw. This is the second time that White, a two-time 1st Team All-SCAC performer, has earned All-Tournament honors. He was previously an All-Tournament selection in 2007 when he helped lead the ’Roos to the conference championship as a freshman.

SCAC All-Conference

Brian Buehler, 1B, JR, Austin CollegeBuehler, a junior first baseman from Dallas, earned first team honors after leading the ’Roos in virtually every offensive category in 2010. For the season, he hit .444 and had seven home runs and 45 runs batted in. Buehler played in 37 games this season, starting 36, and had a team-best 60 hits with 31 runs scored, nine doubles and a triple. For the year, he boasted a .681 slugging percentage and a .487 on base percentage.

Andy White, SS, SR, Austin CollegeWhite, a senior shortstop from Dallas, earned first team honors for the second time in his career and this is the third time he has earned All-SCAC honors in his career. White finished second on the team behind Buehler with a .406 batting average and had 52 hits, scored 36 runs and had a team-best 13 doubles. He also had two home runs and was second on the team with 29 runs batted in while stealing 11 bases and also boasting a .960 fielding percentage.

Scooter Merritt, 2B, JR, Austin CollegeMerritt, a junior second baseman from Rockwall, was third on the team with a .392 batting average and added 11 doubles, three home runs and 26 runs batted in. Merritt collected 49 hits on the year and led the team with 38 runs scored. Merritt also stole 10 bases in 11 attempts and had an on-base percentage of .483, good for second best on the team. Merritt was also 2-0 on the mound in six pitching appearances with a 4.50 earned run average.

Baseball Pitcher of the Week (February 22-26, 2010)

Will Chermak, P, SR, Austin CollegeChermak, a senior right hander from Austin, tossed a complete game shutout in a 6-0 win over Hendrix on Saturday. Chermak went 9.0 innings while scattering just six hits and striking out four batters, and also issued zero walks in the victory.
