Coach

Mark Hudson

Head Men’s Soccer Coach

Mark Hudson enters his fourth season at the helm of the men’s soccer program in 2010. Under Hudson, the team has seen a continued rise in success in the extremely competitive Southern Collegiate Conference. Hudson most recently guided the 2009 team to its best record in three years and second half of the season finish of 7-1-1, which included a 2-1 win over the nations 6th ranked team, University of California-Santa Cruz. The 2010 team looks to carry over that success as the team loses just one starter from 2009.

Hudson came to Austin College from fellow SCAC member Centre College in 2007, where he was an assistant coach for 5 seasons. A 1999 Centre graduate, Hudson helped lead the programs to new heights that included at top 10 national ranking and an overall record of 60-21-8. Hudson brings a unique approach to technical training that helped progress Centre into one of the most skilled teams in the country. Much of Hudson’s approach to technical development came from his time spent with the Arsenal Coaching Staff (London, England) leading up to their EPL fixture with rival Manchester United in 2004.

Prior to his stint at Centre, Hudson spent the 2001 season at Washington and Lee University in Virginia, where the school won the regular season conference championship in one of the best seasons in school history. In addition, Hudson has coached club soccer in Colorado and Kentucky.

As a player, Hudson led Centre to some of its most successful seasons in school history. As a junior, Hudson captained the team to it’s first ever NCAA Tournament appearance; a feat that was repeated a year later in which the Colonels fell to defending national champion Wheaton College, the nations top-ranked team, in overtime.

Coach Hudson holds a Bachelor of Arts from Centre College and a Masters Degree in Sports Administration from Virginia Commonwealth University’s SportsCenter. In addition, Hudson holds certifications from the NSCAA and USSF. Hudson resides in Sherman with his wife, Laci, and their two golden retrievers, Kelsey and Cal.
