Austin College is committed to making reasonable accommodations for students with documented disabilities in accordance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, and the ADA Amendments Act of 2008. To arrange for accommodations, students must contact the Director of the Academic Skills Center at 903.813.2454 or come by the ASC in Suite 211 of the Wright Campus Center.
Students must provide recent (within three years) diagnostic documentation in order to demonstrate the current impact of the disability and to identify appropriate accommodations. However, depending on the nature of the disability, students may be required to present documentation from an evaluation conducted within the past year.
The evaluation report should be on letterhead, dated and signed, indicating the certification or licensure of the evaluator. The report should include a summary of the diagnostic interview, any tests administered with subtest and standard scores, a description of the nature and severity of the substantial limitation to learning (or other major life activity), specific diagnosis, description of the student’s history, test behaviors, and score patterns that support the diagnosis, and recommended academic accommodations with a rationale to support them.
Each semester, students registered for disability services must bring their schedule to the Director of the Academic Skills Center and fill out the necessary accommodation request forms. The students are then responsible for delivering these forms directly to their instructors.
